ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 2002
Riptech, Inc., the premier provider of scalable, real-time managed security services, today announced that the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) has awarded it with the Hottest Buzz Award for its ability to successfully garner local, national, and international media coverage to build corporate and brand recognition. The honor was part of NVTC's annual Hot Ticket Awards, which recognized the region's technology companies and individuals for great vision, the ability to implement and deliver their core offerings, an innovative management approach, and star-quality charisma.
In accepting the award with other members of the executive team, Riptech co-founder and chief technology officer, Tim Belcher, noted, "We see buzz as the reflection of commitment to customer service, as opposed to hype, which is often undeserved. We are proud of the buzz we have created."
Riptech topped a list of finalists, including BioNetrix, Entremed, Human Genome Sciences, and XM Satellite Radio, singled out from over 1,700 companies in the region. As excessive hype has gone out of fashion, Riptech has built substantive public relations programs that differentiate its offerings and, importantly, support the company's business plan.
Garnering the Hottest Buzz Award caps a number of recent Riptech successes and milestones. In January 2002, Riptech released the first-of-its-kind Internet Security Threat Report. The Report has successfully generated more than 150 high-profile Riptech placements in national and international media to date, including:

Additionally, in April, Riptech entered into a joint venture with Mitsubishi to offer managed security services to enterprises in Japan, further solidifying Riptech's position as a global leader in the security industry. Most recently, Riptech was first out of the blocks with warnings about a new worm, "SQL Spida" that compromises Microsoft SQL servers. Numerous publications including CMPnetAsia.com, Computerworld, CRN Online, Dow Jones Newswires, InfoWorld, Network World, Network World Fusion, Network World Security and Bug Patch Alert, Reuters, Washington Business Journal Online, and the Washington Post published information about the worm based on Riptech's media alert and interviews with Riptech executives.
"With security as a top-of-mind concern for most businesses these days, we were not surprised to see local security companies generating substantial buzz in the media and boardrooms," said Bobbie Kilberg, president of NVTC. "NVTC was pleased to recognize Riptech with our `Hottest Buzz Award' for the high volume of press coverage and name recognition it has generated."
"The Hottest Buzz Award is a distinct honor, as it comes from our neighbors in northern Virginia," said Amit Yoran, president and CEO at Riptech, Inc. "We are pleased that NVTC has recognized Riptech for our presence in the media and our vision. We appreciate the teamwork that resulted in this award and, specifically, the contributions of our customers, who have directly or indirectly contributed to case studies and Internet Security Threat Reports; our Secure Operations Center; our marketing team; our public relations agency, O'Keeffe and Company; and especially the press, who have been committed to covering the critical topic of information security."
