SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 2002
Altiris(R) Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a leader in systems management solutions that reduce the total cost of owning information technology, Monday announced Carbon Copy(R) Solution remote control capabilities for handheld devices in conjunction with the unveiling of Altiris' ongoing handheld device management strategy.
Handheld support for Carbon Copy Solution, a leading remote control tool since the 1980s, will be included at no extra cost to current Altiris customers with annual upgrade protection (AUP). IT managers will have the ability to remotely control the corporate technology environment from the mobile console of a handheld device running Carbon Copy Solution.
Carbon Copy Solution for handhelds will allow IT managers to both remotely access corporate devices and remote control those devices through the handheld form factor.
Jeff Dougan, New Jersey Transit software specialist, said, "We have used Carbon Copy Solution as a convenient and time saving means to remotely control computers around the state of New Jersey that need the personalized attention of the IT staff."
Carbon Copy Solution running on handheld devices will provide an extremely mobile solution to serve corporate computing clients from just about anywhere and at anytime.
"While away from their desk, IT administrators will be able to use their Pocket PC to connect to a server and perform administrative tasks," said Poul Nielsen, Altiris VP of product strategy. "Administrators will be able to access, control and manage desktops, laptops or the company Web server while on the go.
"In fact, when used in conjunction with Altiris Helpdesk Solution(TM), IT personnel will be able to receive and open a work item, launch a remote control session, and resolve the issue all from their handheld device as if they were using Carbon Copy from their desktop."
Carbon Copy Solution for handhelds has been equipped with keystroke accelerators to provide IT managers with more instantaneous control of the target machine.
Carbon Copy Solution's powerful management features provide the functionality to remotely administer a corporate environment that includes servers, desktops and laptops. As part of the Altiris eXpress(TM) infrastructure, Carbon Copy Solution allows Web-hosted remote control with automated deployment, configuration and reporting capabilities that track client installations and remote sessions.
With Carbon Copy Solution for handhelds, IT administrators can monitor servers and their individual services. For example, administrators can perform hard and soft reboots, cold boots, start, stop or restart different services and programs, and run scripts and batch files all from the handheld Carbon Copy Solution console.
Desktop and laptop navigation features controlled from the handheld include:
-- Remote system reboot -- Single touch CTRL ALT DEL -- Keystroke accelerators to launch the task manager, CMD prompt, control panel and Windows Explorer -- Ability to define custom programs to launch -- View options to jump to specific areas on the remote screen, such as upper left, upper right, center, etc.
Carbon Copy Solution can be used with various communications systems including connected and wireless LANs and modems.
