WildPackets Inc., developers of EtherPeek NX, Network Magazine's 2002 "Product of the Year" award-winner, today released PacketGrabber(TM) 1.0, a remote packet collection application. PacketGrabber, included with each copy of EtherPeek and EtherPeek NX, extends the ability to troubleshoot enterprise networks by easily gathering trace files from workstations on remote segments. These trace files can then automatically be sent via email, ftp, or shared volume to a network administrator for analysis in EtherPeek, or expert analysis in EtherPeek NX.

Through pre-configured AutoCapture Templates, PacketGrabber provides distributed packet analysis with a minimum of user intervention. AutoCapture Templates have the ability to employ filters, trigger start and stop capture sessions based on time, specified filters, or number of bytes captured, and automatically return saved trace files to the appropriate location for analysis by EtherPeek or EtherPeek NX. PacketGrabber also intelligently detects the network adapter it should use on each remote computer.

"We think enterprise customers will use PacketGrabber to facilitate their Help Desk service, and significantly reduce downtime by pinpointing problems on segments across the network," states Dovid Coplon, Product Marketing Manager. "The fact that it is easily deployed, integrates well with existing solutions, is free in single license form and extremely affordable in site license form, should be attractive to IT Professionals in any organization with a dispersed network."

PacketGrabber replaces EtherHelp for Windows, WildPackets' free blind packet trace capture utility that has been included with all EtherPeek and EtherPeek NX licenses. Unlike EtherHelp, which was not licensed and was freely distributable, PacketGrabber will be provided in single user license form only. To deploy PacketGrabber on a widespread basis, a separate license agreement is required. More information on multiple use or site licensing of PacketGrabber is available from sales@wildpackets.com, or the product page http://www.wildpackets.com/products/packetgrabber/.> About EtherPeek and EtherPeek NX

EtherPeek for Windows is an award-winning Ethernet network traffic and protocol analyzer that makes the complex tasks of troubleshooting and debugging mixed-platform, multi-protocol networks easy. EtherPeek NX, WildPackets' enhanced, real-time expert analyzer, has been carefully designed to assist IT Professionals in analyzing and diagnosing increasingly large and diverse volumes of network data, providing precise, contemporary analysis of the problems facing today's networks. NX' Expert tracks dozens of separate aspects of network performance, showing the source of problems at the packet level. The Expert View provides in-depth analysis of dozens of network problems in a conversation-centered view of traffic. The Expert Peer Map creates a map of conversations, showing traffic volume and protocol information for each pair of nodes. All WildPackets' "Peek" products have the ability to open multiple live capture windows, each with independent analysis attributes.
