Andrew G. Ury, MD, a practicing physician and the President of Physician Micro Systems, Inc. (PMSI), was recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year(R) in the healthcare division for the Pacific Northwest by Ernst & Young.
He received this prestigious award because of his participation in the development of electronic medical records and practice management software and the success of PMSI in connection with these innovations.
Ury is a graduate of Stanford Medical School and has practiced as a family physician for over 20 years. Ury envisioned a software application that could replace the entire paper chart with an electronic version. He began development on the application in 1983 from his home. Today, Physician Micro Systems has over 85 employees and a global customer base. The company produces three applications for use in physician's offices: Practice Partner(R) Patient Records, Practice Partner Medicla Billing, and Practice Partner Appointment Scheduler.
Ury, who still practices medicine for 4-5 hours each week, has the reponsibility of being the CEO, Product Manager, and Software Architect. His unique combination of product vision and business savvy has earned him this recognition as Entrepreneur of the Year.
