SUPERCOMM 2002

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2002

Jasomi Networks today announced the deployment of its award-winning PeerPoint SIP to SIP Gateway by Tellme Networks, Inc. By deploying Jasomi's PeerPoint, Tellme is now able to integrate remote and home-office users into its existing IP phone network without compromising its enterprise security policies.

"Tellme has an extensive VoIP telephony infrastructure that Jasomi's PeerPoint allows us to securely extend across the Net to anywhere in the world," said Don Jackson, vice president of advanced telephony at Tellme. "We were looking for a solution that let us gate inbound SIP traffic without bypassing the firewall. Jasomi's PeerPoint has provided that solution, giving us the ability to securely serve home and remote users as if they were on site."

Jasomi and Tellme worked together to create a solution that integrates not only with ordinary VoIP telephones and servers, but also with the industry-leading carrier-grade telecom network Tellme powers.

"Tellme had some specialized requirements that spurred us to expand the level of functionality provided on the PeerPoint SIP to SIP Gateway," said Dan Freedman, CEO of Jasomi Networks. "We are extremely pleased to have played a part in building significant capabilities for one of the industry's leading telephony service providers, and could not have asked for a more innovative and forward looking company to work with."

How PeerPoint works

Unlike other solutions that require companies to reconfigure their firewall security policy, PeerPoint can be installed without controversy, and configured in a matter of minutes. PeerPoint employs a back-to-back user agent tied to an integrated media proxy. When placed in an existing firewall's de-militarized zone (DMZ) beside Web, Email, and other servers, PeerPoint splits each SIP call into two halves and controls the signaling and media streams of both half-calls. One half-call takes place in the organization's internal IP address space while the other uses the global IP address space. PeerPoint handles all protocol field translations between the two half-calls and also carries the call media streams between the different address domains.

PeerPoint maintains the appearance of a single, ordinary call, while performing all translations on the half-calls needed to cope with network address translation (NAT) and firewall traversal. Deployment of PeerPoint imposes no additional load on the existing NAT-enabled firewall, and does not affect or intercept any other traffic traveling across the firewall. Since it does not require any firewall replacements, load adjustments, or major policy revisions, PeerPoint speeds up an enterprise's evaluation and deployment of VoIP, minimizing confrontations with enterprise security personnel when telephony infrastructure decisions are being made.
