The Task Group members representing buyers and sellers are developing open and non-proprietary data exchange and communication standards to e-enable the transacting of complex services and products. The standards will be used for exchanging data associated with Business-to-Business, Business-to-Marketplace, and Marketplace-to-Marketplace transactions. PriceWaterhouse Coopers is managing the effort.

The Phase I effort includes the Extensible Markup (XML) Schema design for twelve transactions with associated data elements and tags using the RosettaNet Transport Routing & Packaging Protocol (TRP). This platform simplifies transporting data because it allows for the attachment of accompanying standard or descriptive files. It also enables reusing some pre-existing standards.

"Data content standardization has long been a concern in our industry. With the Phase II standardized forms, we will be able to increase our commercial participation across the Internet with various configuration tools," stated Jerry Hubbard, OFS Portal Vice President of Content Development and PIDX Standards Subcommittee Chair.

Phase II will generate standard service forms. It is expected to complete in the second quarter of 2002. The Task Group is focusing on thirteen upstream services, such as cementing, logging, stimulation, coil tubing and transportation. The final results will be published and will include a PIDX supported methodology to create additional service forms for other areas of the petroleum industry.

"Energy, Oil and Gas is RCG IT's largest business area representing 24% of our revenues," says Gary Payne, RCG IT Texas Regional Senior VP. "Web-enabling the petroleum industry's procurement process will help the industry reap the benefits of eCommerce and represent several billions of dollars of savings per year. We're glad to be a part of this important first step in the industry's transformation process."
