IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2002
Intersil Corporation (Nasdaq:ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, today announced that their Endura(TM) HIP6302 and HIP6601B high-performance analog power management ICs are now available for new Intel 845G chip set based motherboards.
The Intel(R) 845G chip set is the first Intel chip set with integrated graphics for Pentium(R) 4 processor-based desktop computer motherboards and provides a high-performance video and gaming platform for mainstream PCs.
"Our field and factory applications engineers worked with Intel engineers to develop the highest-performance, lowest cost, CPU core multiphase dc/dc converter solution for the new Intel 845G chip set platform," said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's High Performance Analog Product Group. "This design win is an example of how our power management technology, product quality and high-volume supply capability enables industry innovators to bring their new product platforms to market very quickly."
Intersil's Endura Power Solution for the i845G Platform
The Endura solution for the Intel 845G chip set platform was designed with performance and cost-savings in mind. Power for the processor is precisely managed using Intersil's Endura HIP6302 two-phase, voltage regulation module (VRM) 9.0-compliant, pulse width modulation (PWM) controller combined with two Endura HIP6601B synchronous rectified buck N-channel metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) drivers. The Intersil solution utilizes the lower MOSFET drain-to-source resistance as a free current-sensing element. This reduces the total bill of materials while providing strict VRM 9.0 load line performance compliance meeting Intel's specifications. This Intersil topology and design enables quick and easy transfer of the core regulator layout from one motherboard to another and greatly reduces costs and time to market.
Intel 845G Brings High Performance and Value
Intel's 845G chip set is the first to integrate a 32-bpp (bits per pixel) graphics processor, thus, eliminating the need for a separate graphics card. This new platform supports advanced Pentium 4 processors in an mPGA478 socket, a 400/533 MHz system bus, PC133 SDRAM or DDR (Double Data Rate) 200/266 SDRAM memory (2 GB max), an add-on AGP 4X video card (if still needed), two digital video out ports multiplexed on the AGP bus and USB 2.0 integrated into the I/O Controller Hub (ICH4). Targeted for mainstream consumer PCs, the Intel 845G chip set platform promises excellent performance and value to video and gaming enthusiasts.
