IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2002

VitalStream Inc., a leading provider of customized solutions for digital broadcasting, today announced that they will host the Microsoft SharePoint(TM) Team Services (STS) Web site used by Ed Viesturs, America's leading high-altitude mountaineer.

Viesturs will use the site as part of his project, Endeavor 8,000, to climb the 14 highest mountains in the world, each above 8,000 meters, without supplemental oxygen. In March, Viesturs and his multinational team will attempt number 13, the notorious 8,091m (26,545ft) Himalayan Annapurna.

Enabling collaboration between team members in multiple countries, the STS Web site provides the ability to prepare for the climb by communicating electronically to share information and develop route documents, lists and itineraries. During the climb, friends and family members can watch the team's progress, view spectacular footage and communicate via e-mail.

"We are pleased that VitalStream agreed to host the Endeavor 8000 team Web site for Ed Viesturs and his climbing team," said Gytis Barzdukas, group product manager of the Business Portal Group at Microsoft. "Customers needing team-based Web sites can benefit from hosted SharePoint Team Services sites and the technology and services expertise provided by VitalStream."

VitalStream was selected as a Microsoft partner for the STS Web site to provide hosting services, which play an instrumental role in the success of the Web site. "We believe in Microsoft's vision to put technology in the hands of people in non-traditional places," said Paul Summers, VitalStream CEO.

"Collaboration is a driving factor in the ongoing success of digital broadcasting solutions and the STS Web site delivers on the promise of the Internet. It's a perfect example of how technology can simplify and enhance our lives."

VitalStream technology and services range from the MediaConsole(TM), a Web-based application that enables customers to remotely control and digitally broadcast their streaming content worldwide, to NetCluster(TM), the state-of-the-art Content Delivery Network, and VitalPresenter, a Web conferencing service enabling live, multimedia presentations over the Internet.

VitalStream is an authorized Web Presence Provider (WPP) for Microsoft SharePoint Team Services as well as an authorized provider of Microsoft FrontPage version 2002 and is a Windows Media Service Provider.

Fans around the world can participate in the perilous journey first hand as the team streams audio and video dispatches, which can be viewed at www.annapurna2002.com.
