SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2002
Ethernet LAN switch eliminates the need for duplicate Ethernet
Controller and PHY chips in notebook docking stations
Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS) expands its analog switch portfolio with an Ethernet LAN switch. The FSAL200 LAN switch allows multiplexing/demultiplexing of fast LAN signals in notebook computers, routers, hubs, switches and other LAN applications.
In the past, notebook docking stations contained an extra Ethernet controller and PHY chip for multiplexing/demultiplexing of LAN signals. With Fairchild's FSAL200 LAN switch, these extra parts are eliminated. "Fairchild's FSAL200 enables laptop designers to switch the PHY's analog transmit/receive pairs to either the laptop's or docking bay's LAN connector. This reduces part count and cost, which are important design concerns," says Seth Prentice, Fairchild's Analog Switch product manager.
Fairchild's FSAL200 quad 2:1 CMOS TTL-compatible multiplexer/demultiplexer operates from 3.0V to 5.5V, with rail-to-rail signal operation. This device provides users with a high, 137 MHz typical bandwidth that can route fast Ethernet, Token Ring, ATM25, SONET and other LAN signals. The FSAL200's low 6-Ohm ON-resistance allows inputs to be connected to outputs without adding propagation delay or generating additional ground-bounce noise.
Pricing begins at $1.50. This pricing is based on 1,000-piece quantities in 16-lead QVSOP.
Fairchild offers a comprehensive portfolio of analog and bus switch products for LAN networks, notebooks, audio solutions and handheld devices.
