SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 2002
Food Services of America has been awarded the foodservice contract for the State of Washington by the Department of General Administration Office of State Procurement.
Worth $102 million to the locally based company, Food Services of America withstood two appeals and a court petition made by incumbent food service distributor, SYSCO, to win the bid.
Originally awarded the competitive points-based contract both in May and December of last year, and after again being challenged by the competitor in Thurston County Superior Court, Food Services of America will finally begin to provide Washington State agencies, facilities and contracted services with dry and frozen food products on March 21. The contract runs for six years.
According to the court decision handed down March 13, the state bid process was just and fair and Food Services of America was determined to be able to provide taxpayers with the best value in high quality products at the best prices.
"We are pleased to be able to provide the State of Washington with the same value we provide our commercial and institutional food service customers system-wide," said Food Services of America chairman, Thomas J. Stewart. "As a Washington based company, we believe that it benefits everyone's interests to be the food supplier to our own state government."
Food Services of America is the nation's 5th largest commercial and institutional foodservice distributor. Serving the 15 western and mid-western states from 10 distribution centers, Food Services of America is a leading supplier to restaurants, schools, hospitals, elderly care centers, prisons, airports, airlines and cruise lines and any organization that prepares food. Food Services of America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Services Group of America.
