attachments for CWIDC's "VirusCheck"
Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a worldwide leader in antivirus and Internet security software and services, announced today that Cable and Wireless IDC (CWIDC) will offer managed virus protection services powered by Trend Micro's InterScan(R) VirusWall(R), the world's leading antivirus solution for the Internet gateway. Set to launch March 29th, CWIDC's "VirusCheck" is designed to protect business subscribers from viruses, worms and similar security threats by scanning all inbound and outbound email messages and attachments at Cable & Wireless IDC's SMTP relay server.
To ensure reliable protection for its managed email and high-speed Internet users, Cable and Wireless IDC required a high-performance, best-of-breed antivirus solution at the Internet gateway. Trend Micro InterScan VirusWall was the solution of choice because of its carrier grade scanning, powerful central management features, and 24x7 support from TrendLabs, Trend Micro's global antivirus research and support network. InterScan VirusWall is the world's best-selling antivirus product for the Internet gateway, with a market share exceeding 62% in 2000, according to the IDC. (Source: IDC Bulletin).
"We are very pleased to be working with Cable & Wireless IDC," said Steve Chang, CEO of Trend Micro. "By providing a safer environment for business email subscribers through Trend Micro technology, CWIDC differentiates itself from competitors and demonstrates a strong commitment to its customers' security."
Email is the most common vector of virus infection for enterprise networks, accounting for nearly 90% of the virus incidents reported by Japanese users in 2001. (Source: IPA-ISEC, Japan). By scanning for viruses at CWIDC's server, VirusCheck can detect and remove viruses before they approach a subscriber's network. VirusCheck is the first service offered by CWIDC as part of the integration of its services with those of PSINet Japan Inc., which it acquired in January 2002. The security service will be offered as an option with CWIDC's managed "e-Mail" service, to be launched simultaneously, as well as with its high-speed Internet access services.
