SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 2002
Pixo, Inc. (www.pixo.com), a leading provisioning platform to download wireless Java applications for mobile devices, announced today its intent to deploy its Mobile Download Server 3.0 solution on Sun Microsystems' iPlanet Application Server platform. Pixo has chosen the iPlanet Application Server for its flexible architecture, world-class scalability and reliability to run its Mobile Download Server 3.0 wireless infrastructure software.
Pixo's server software allows operators to manage the complexity of delivering wireless Java applications to their subscribers. It manages the complete application download lifecycle, including submitting applications, matching applications to appropriate devices, notifying subscribers of new applications and upgrades, handling application downloads, and tracking download information for billing purposes.
"Deploying carrier-grade solutions requires a robust environment with support for sophisticated load-balancing and fail-over capabilities. The iPlanet Application Server enables Pixo to offer a high performance platform for wireless Java downloading and more," said Dave Rothschild, president and CEO at Pixo.
The ARC Group forecasts over 400 million wireless Java-enabled handsets by 2003. Together, Pixo's wireless provisioning platform and the iPlanet Application Server helps operators overcome the challenges of delivering applications and content to their subscribers. The Pixo Mobile Download Server 3.0 is built upon the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) compliant Framework for carrier-grade scalability and robustness.
"Wireless operators are looking to generate increased revenue from offering enhanced data services," said Wes Wasson, vice president of iPlanet product marketing at Sun. "Together, Pixo and iPlanet deliver a compelling wireless provisioning solution built upon the flexible J2EE(TM) architecture and the proven scalability and high availability capabilities of the iPlanet Application Server."
Pixo is helping direct the future of J2EE(TM) Client Provisioning as an expert member of the Java Specifications Request Group (JSR) 124 under the Java Community Process program.
