SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2002
SAP AG (NYSE:SAP) today announced at the JavaOne(TM) Developers Conference that the SAP(R) Web Application Server -- a key component of its open-integration infrastructure mySAP(TM) Technology -- will be compatible with the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) version 1.3. The SAP Web Application Server is geared toward business applications and provides unique reliability, openness, and low cost of ownership. With the open-standards-based Web services infrastructure mySAP Technology, SAP enables customers to achieve unprecedented interoperability and flexibility to deploy applications driving collaborative business.
As outlined in the mySAP Technology roadmap unveiled at the SAP TechEd Conference late last year, the SAP Web Application Server provides Web services through platform-independent, easy-to-maintain business Web applications and technologies. These encompass Java 2 Enterprise Edition and ABAP. The SAP Web Application Server allows customers to leverage their existing technology assets as well as their ABAP teams while providing a foundation from which to build new applications and deploy any J2EE application in a Web services environment and tapping into a huge pool of Java-trained programming personnel.
The SAP Web Application Server provides the reliability, scalability, security, and high availability SAP customers require. In addition, it supports open technical standards such as UDDI, WSDL, and SOAP, and within mySAP Technology, open business standards such as RosettaNet, ebXML, and UBL. The SAP Web Application Server complements existing J2EE standards and provides comprehensive lifecycle management from design, development, and deployment to continuous change. All together, this provides a high performance, open, easy-to-use Web development and runtime infrastructure for professional Web business applications.
"With the evolution and maturity of Java technology, enterprise developers are finally able to achieve the long-awaited interoperability and flexibility required to run mission-critical collaborative businesses," said Hasso Plattner, co-chairman of the executive board, chief executive officer and co-founder of SAP AG. "SAP fully embraces Java technology within the SAP Web Application Server and brings its business expertise and features to the J2EE community."
The SAP Web Application Server is expected to pass Sun's Compatibility Test Suite for J2EE 1.3 in June of this year. It will include Enterprise Java Beans 2.0, Java(TM) Message Service (JMS) 1.0.2, and J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA) 1.0. SAP is continuously striving to provide compliance with the latest specifications in order to deliver customers with an infrastructure that is always up to date. For example, SAP customers are also receiving the benefits of full XML-based support for Web services, including JAXP 1.2 and JAXM 1.0, and XML schema support and validation.
"Sun and SAP have a common interest in providing solutions that enable interoperability and flexibility within dynamic e-businesses and Web service-oriented solutions. We are pleased that SAP has chosen to support Java technology, the industry standard for application server environments, with its J2EE Web Application Server," said Rich Green, vice president and general manager, Java and XML Software, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Furthermore, SAP continues to be an important player in the Java community through its role in the Java Community Process."
With today's announcement, SAP continues to deliver on the vision of the mySAP.com(R) e-business platform through open, standards-based technologies that power virtual enterprises through portals, Web services, and exchanges. The SAP Web Application Server is one of three important elements of the mySAP Technology infrastructure that drives collaborative business. The exchange infrastructure and portal infrastructure round out an architecture that enables open integration of any application and Web service from any vendor in any technology environment.
