MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2002
Individual small business owners and consumers now have access to vulnerability assessment software that was originally developed for the federal government and defense agencies through a strategic alliance announced today by Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) and Software Shelf(R).
STAT(R) (Security Threat Avoidance Technology) Scanner, developed by Harris, is now available at the Software Shelf online store in a single-PC version -- the first time such a high-level security assessment tool has been made available for a single computer.
"This is a big step forward for the small business owner or single user who needs to protect vital information on a single computer," said Dan Feeley, president, Software Shelf International, Inc. "Unlike anti-virus software, STAT Scanner finds - and automatically fixes - critical vulnerabilities on a computer. Such a comprehensive vulnerability scanner has never been available for a single computer."
Harris, a leading provider of computer security solutions to the U.S. government for more than 25 years, and Software Shelf International, Inc., a global reseller of computer software products, today announced the partnership that makes STAT Scanner downloadable at http://www.softwareshelf.com for only $99.
"For the first time, an individual user can now purchase a high-level security scanning tool that meets the rigorous security requirements of the federal government," said Lilo Newberry, director of operations for Harris STAT. "Through this strategic alliance, individuals can now download the solution as easily as they would any other type of consumer software."
STAT Scanner detects and assesses more than 1,400 Windows NT(R) and Windows(R) 2000/XP security vulnerabilities - the largest number of such vulnerabilities detected by a single software product - and automatically fixes a large percentage of them with the exclusive AutoFix feature.
STAT Scanner also tests for the presence of the very latest software patches for Windows NT(R), Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP; Internet Information Server (IIS) 4 and IIS 5; Windows Media(TM) Player, Outlook(R), Event Viewer; Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer; and Netscape(R) Communicator. These patches are key to preventing denial of service attacks, unauthorized access, or privilege elevation on a personal computer.
Software Shelf International, Inc., founded in 1994 in Silicon Valley, develops, markets, and sells the most select best-of-breed Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, and XP utilities that improve system response time, stability, and control. Its products and services are designed to make things easier for its users. All Software Shelf products, their trial versions, and complete pricing are available at http://www.softwareshelf.com.
