MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 2002
Setting the standard for the eLearning market, Docent Inc. (Nasdaq:DCNT), the premier provider of eLearning software for Global 2000 companies, today announced that it was listed as a leader in the 2002 Gartner eLearning LMS Magic Quadrant. Gartner defines leaders as enterprises that are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.
Gartner's 2002 Learning Management System (LMS) Magic Quadrant report by James Lundy was published on February 8, 2002 and evaluated the performance of more than 17 LMS vendors based on ability to execute and completeness of vision. The ability to execute criteria includes factors such as the size of the customer base, integration with other enterprise applications and skills management capabilities. The completeness of vision criteria measures factors such as Web-based architecture, financial management capabilities and support for nomadic use.
According to Gartner, learning management systems can and should be considered the critical application for employee, partner and customer knowledge transfer. By 2005, Gartner projects that 70 percent of large corporations will own learning management system applications.
"Docent continues to set the standard for the eLearning industry," said Dave Ellett, Docent chairman and CEO. "Our position in Gartner's eLearning Magic Quadrant is in recognition of Docent's consistent execution of our vision to deliver measurable improvements in organizational effectiveness through the delivery of the best integrated suite of solutions in the market."

Gartner's permission to print or reference its Magic Quadrant should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner's opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner-defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the Leaders segment. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player segments may be the right match for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant. Gartner research is intended to be one of many information sources and the reader should not rely solely on the Magic Quadrant for decision-making.
