BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 2002

InforMax, Inc. (Nasdaq:INMX), a leading global provider of life science informatics solutions, has been selected by the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York as a key partner in the creation of The Buffalo Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics.

The University at Buffalo has signed a major license agreement with InforMax for the GenoMax(TM) enterprise bioinformatics system and the Vector NTI(R) Suite, InforMax's desktop application. These industry leading software solutions will be used by the University to support the research activities of its collaborators and provide statewide academic access to InforMax's premiere bioinformatics products.

"We are thrilled that Dr. Elizabeth Capaldi, the Provost at the University at Buffalo, The State University at New York, and her entire team have selected InforMax as their strategic partner in this major bioinformatics initiative," said J Rollins, InforMax's Vice President, Sales and Marketing. "InforMax will be supporting The Buffalo Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics to establish a world-class bioniformatics capability that will enable the University and its collaborators from across the state of New York to accelerate their research and development efforts. Through these efforts, we look forward to playing a key role in working with the University and the entire Buffalo community in their mission to accelerate the development of valuable intellectual property and to serve as an engine for economic growth."

As an integral part of the Center's focus on structural biology and target discovery, researchers throughout the State University of New York system will be able to use the industry's most comprehensive solutions for discovery research. In announcing the funding for the center last December, New York State Governor George E. Pataki said, "The Buffalo Center of Excellence will help bring thousands of jobs and a new high-tech economy to Western New York while also producing new drug discoveries, innovative medical treatments and specialized computer products. The fact that corporate leaders like Compaq, Veridian, InforMax, Stryker and others are making this generous commitment to the Buffalo Center, provides a clear indication of the tremendous economic benefits this initiative will deliver for the people of Western New York."

As a critical component of the recently unveiled plans by Governor Pataki to create a 150,000 square foot building to house drug design research, analysis capabilities and product commercialization facilities, researchers will utilize InforMax's software solutions to showcase the company's High-Throughput Research(TM) methodology as the preeminent standard for enabling collaborative discovery research throughout the network of institutions affiliated with the University at Buffalo.

InforMax's GenoMax(TM) product is an enterprise bioinformatics system that helps minimize the time and cost of both discovering and validating valuable targets for pharmaceutical, therapeutic, and diagnostic development. This modular family of tools is designed to work with multiple types of genomic and proteomic data.
