A Talladega, Alabama woman was recently announced as the winner of the 2002 Montana Glacier National Park vacation contest. Janice M. Mitchell, who has worked for the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind for the past 21 years, is the mother of three and grandmother of five. Mitchell, who registered for the vacation on the Glacier Park Inc. website, was notified by e-mail by the company that she had won the free 5-day, 6-night trip, which includes airfare. Mitchell exclaimed, "Imagine my surprise when I learned that I was the winner of this once-in-a-lifetime experience! I had to read it several times to be sure I was reading it right."

Mitchell and her husband, Joe, will stay at the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier Park, Montana. Their scheduled activities include a guided horseback tour of the park and surrounding Indian reservation by a member of the Blackfoot Indian Tribe and a boat tour of the scenic Two Medicine Lakes area. After a ride up the famous Going-To-The-Sun Road, they will visit the area of the park commonly referred to as the Switzerland of North America. There, they will stay at Many Glacier Hotel on the shores of Swift Current Lake, within hiking distance of living glaciers.
