Silicon Motion Selected for OQO's Ultra-Personal Computer

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2002
Silicon Motion announced today that OQO Corp. has chosen Silicon Motion's Lynx3DM graphics controller as a key component for the world's first Ultra-Personal Computer (UPC). According to OQO the Lynx3DM, combined with other key technologies, makes the UPC a full-feature, full-performance Windows XP computer that can fit in your pocket. The combination of today's low-power CPU and Silicon Motion's low-power graphics provided excellent building blocks to reach this goal.
OQO's first product is a highly functional and versatile handheld wireless computer that easily becomes a notebook or desktop PC. Measuring just 4.1 x 2.9 x 0.9 (inches) and weighing less than nine ounces, OQO's PC is a complete Windows XP computer. The OQO UPC can dock in a laptop enclosure or a desktop docking cradle, giving the device full-size mobile and desktop functionality. Because it is a high-performance X86 PC that runs the Windows XP operating system, it can replace a mobile PC plus PDA combination.
"The OQO engineering team focused on many issues affecting size and power consumption, including digital and analog circuitry and overall integration. Silicon Motion was key in providing OQO with a cost-effective, low-power demand solution for high-performance, accelerated 3D graphics," said Colin Hunter, President of OQO.
"OQO's UPC is aligned with Silicon Motion's mission to bring a rich multimedia experience to mobile devices. Together, we will provide solutions to allow smaller, faster devices with an extended battery life," said Kevin Kitagawa, Sr. Director of Marketing, Silicon Motion.
