LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 2002
TELUS is the first Canadian service provider to deploy a network
availability solution across its national backbone
Arbor Networks(TM), a leading provider of network availability solutions today announced that TELUS Corporation, a leading provider of communications solutions across Canada, is the first Canadian service provider to deploy Arbor Networks Peakflow(TM) across its IP backbone in order to protect its network from availability threats, including distributed denial of service attacks.
"As part of its focus on providing the best in customer service, TELUS evaluates new technology and services that help ensure a highly available and secure network," said Dr. Girish Pathak, TELUS vice president and chief technology officer. "Given the dynamic nature of denial of service attacks, we sought an anomaly-based solution that would enable us to proactively detect and respond to both known and previously unseen threats. We chose Peakflow for its scalable, non-intrusive architecture, to meet the demands of our highly complex, critical network."
Peakflow DoS, built upon the Peakflow Platform, a distributed dynamic network profiling and anomaly detection system, enables the operators of large, complex networks to detect network anomalies, such as distributed denial of service attacks, and rapidly resolve these threats to ensure the highest level of availability and performance. By looking at network flows, Peakflow DoS learns what is normal in the network. When traffic deviates from this dynamically established baseline, Peakflow identifies the anomalous event, classifies its severity and alerts the network operator in real-time, equipping the operator with specific recommendations for countering the threat. Peakflow significantly closes the gap between the detection of a threat and its resolution.
"The most effective protection from distributed threats requires visibility both at the core and edge of networks," said Allan Carey, senior research analyst in the Information Security Services Program at IDC. "By selecting a provider that proactively monitors for such threats in their own network, enterprises significantly extend their ability to mitigate distributed threats such as denial of service attacks. Service providers deploying Arbor solutions, such as TELUS, can offer customers the ability to reach beyond their network borders to address attacks."
"By deploying Arbor's technology, TELUS is leading the way in protecting customers from growing threats to the availability of their networks," said Farnam Jahanian, Arbor president and co-founder. "As these threats continue to evolve, it is our hope that providers will follow TELUS' lead in taking a proactive, customer-focused approach to network availability."
