REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2002
Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq: ADIC), a leading provider of Intelligent Storage(TM) solutions to the open systems marketplace, announced today that Executive Director of Product Marketing Kevin Honeycutt will be a featured panel member today at IDC's annual storage conference, discussing the impact of technology changes on IT departments, including new efforts to combine disk and tape storage systems.

"We may be at an important point of technology change as inexpensive disk storage products based on ATA disk drives begin to be offered to the market," commented Mr. Honeycutt. "As this technology migrates into a new generation of low-cost NAS filers and RAID arrays, the result is likely to be yet another round of reduced costs for primary storage. This is good news for IT departments wrestling with how to store more and spend less.
"The news is also good for those concerned about data protection -- tape systems continue to increase capacity and reduce per-unit cost so that users will be able to back up their stored data without increasing costs. And for those who need to boost recovery performance, disk-based library front-ends for tape systems should become available at price points low enough to make them practical for a broad range of open systems IT users."
In recent weeks, ADIC has made two major announcements related to the integration of disk and tape storage. In April, ADIC began shipping its new StorNext Management Suite, software that merges disk and tape into an integrated, high capacity storage system that provides comprehensive access, management, and protection of data in Storage Area Networks (SANs). And last week, the company announced the acquisition of technology from V-Stor, a developer of software which allows disk-based storage to look and act like tape systems to traditional backup applications in order to allow disk to be included in existing data protection systems.
