Wincor Nixdorf Inc., the leader in the delivery of open systems solutions to the retail and banking industries, today announced the release of BEETLEVIEW, a Web-based desktop management system that enables remote administration of POS systems.

Based on Intel(R) LANDesk(R) Client Manager from Intel, BEETLEVIEW will be delivered pre-installed on all BEETLE(R) POS appliances from Wincor Nixdorf. With today's announcement of BEETLEVIEW software, Wincor Nixdorf is one of the first POS system manufacturers to offer an integrated desktop management solution based on international standards including WfM, DMI and CIM.

Because BEETLEVIEW is Web-based, users can log on from any workstation via a Web browser to obtain detailed information about their BEETLE POS system. BEETLEVIEW includes the following functions:

Inventory management. Using BEETLEVIEW, system administrators can see exactly what hardware and software are installed on a system. Other important data -- including the system's serial number, processor speed, type and number of RAM modules, BIOS version and hard disk -- can be dynamically determined.

Proactive fault management. BEETLEVIEW provides warnings of impending failures due to temperature-related faults, as well as fan, hard disk and power supply failures. System administrators can define threshold values and immediately be notified when these thresholds are exceeded, thus helping prevent system failure and the loss of important data. This proactive fault management increases system uptime and allows efficient servicing.

Remote tools. Special BEETLEVIEW functions allow remote power on/power off and rebooting of a BEETLE POS system.

Integration with enterprise management solutions. Application integration modules are available for Tivoli software and other enterprise management solutions. These pre-configured modules integrate administration and error messages for the BEETLE hardware into the enterprise management platform, making it easy for system administrators to identify, organize and manage their BEETLE POS systems from their existing environment.

BEETLEVIEW is shipping immediately with all Windows-based BEETLE systems and is included at no extra charge. Wincor Nixdorf plans to release a Linux version of BEETLEVIEW at a later date.
