AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2002
Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today announced the PowerVault(tm) 122T, a rack-optimized, automated tape-backup storage system for businesses that want to lower the overall cost of protecting critical data.
The hardware and software features of the new PowerVault 122T automate the data backup process, helping to reduce system management time and cost by consolidating storage backups. Ideal for small- to medium-sized organizations, remote offices or workgroups within a large enterprise, the PowerVault 122T's 2U (3.5 inches) form factor offers a rack-optimized way to backup and protect business-critical data on Dell(tm) PowerEdge(tm) servers or Dell PowerVault Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers.
"Tape systems are a very cost-effective storage medium used today and automating the data backup and restore process can greatly reduce the risk of data loss," said Russ Holt, vice president of Dell's Enterprise Systems Group. "The PowerVault 122T provides the design, power and reliability businesses demand to ensure that their information is protected and available for recovery when needed."
The PowerVault 122T has one DLT VS80 tape drive and holds eight cartridges for a maximum storage capacity of 320GB (640GB with 2:1 compression). The system offers maximum performance with a data transfer rate of 3MB per second (6MB per second with 2:1 compression).
The PowerVault 122T allows customers to leverage existing network investments, offering compatibility with previous tape storage technologies. Businesses can also choose from a full line of Dell's tape-backup software for advanced management features that include disaster recovery and simplified backup scheduling.
The PowerVault 122T is available worldwide with prices starting at $4,150. Services offered include limited warranty, lifetime 24/7 toll-free hardware phone technical support, extensive online support and 30-day getting started telephone software support.
