AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2002
Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN), the leading provider of content management, today announced its intentions to support the Solaris(tm) 9 Operating Environment (OE), Sun Microsystems' latest update to its leading UNIX-based Operating Environment, with its flagship product, Vignette(R) V6, later this year.
Customers running the award-winning Vignette V6 solution on Sun infrastructure will be able take advantage of Sun's highly scalable, manageable and secure service delivery platform, helping them to lower total cost of ownership.
When combined, Vignette content management solutions and the Solaris 9 OE will provide joint customers with increased performance for their Web applications, allowing them to deliver the right information to the right audience at the right time. Vignette customers will be able to increase the speed by which content and information applications are accessed, making the user experience more enjoyable for an organization's customers, suppliers, employees and partners.
In addition, current joint customers will be able to take advantage of the backwards compatibility in the Solaris 9 OE to protect existing investments while developing new content applications.
"Vignette's support for the new Solaris 9 OE further enables us to offer our customers the broadest array of choices when selecting technology infrastructure components for their Web initiatives," said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of products at Vignette. "The Sun and Vignette alliance has been extremely successful to date, and our continued early support of each others' products demonstrates the deep commitment level at both companies."
Companies running Vignette V6 will be able to leverage the Solaris 9 OE to integrate their current content applications with the Sun(tm) Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) architecture, saving them time and resources. Vignette customers will also be available to leverage the increased security enhancements shipping in Solaris 9 OE, such as a fully integrated suite of security services.
"The Solaris Operating Environment leads the industry as a mission-critical platform for deploying Java technology-based applications, providing the performance, stability and scalability that enterprises require," said Doug Kaewert, vice president of the Sun Developer Network group at Sun Microsystems Inc.
"The Vignette V6 content management solution running on the Solaris 9 OE empowers our joint customers to protect and leverage their content-related investments, helping them lower total cost of ownership and increase revenue and marketshare."
As strategic partners, Vignette and Sun work closely together to ensure tight integration between Vignette's content management solutions and the Sun ONE architecture. Most recently, the two companies announced plans to jointly market the Sun Vignette e-Business Bundle, helping provide joint customers with greater value and lower cost in implementing or expanding a comprehensive e-business solution.
Further, Vignette was recently selected by Sun Microsystems UK as its Independent Software Vendor (ISV) of the year for 2001 in the United Kingdom.
