Brokaw and Avenue Pictures produced the film with Bobby Newmyer and Jeff Silver of Outlaw Productions. The film is co-financed by Intermedia Films and Dimension Films. Intermedia, which has financed and licensed such films as "Nurse Betty," "The Wedding Planner," "K-PAX," as well as the upcoming "K-19: The Widowmaker," starring Harrison Ford, will license the film internationally. Dimension Films, which has released such films as "Scream," "Scream II," "Spy Kids," and "The Others," will release the film in the late fall.
Photography has also been completed on "Path to War," directed by the acclaimed director John Frankenheimer ("Ronin," "Manchurian Candidate," and "Seven Days in May") for HBO and starring Sir Michael Gambon, Donald Sutherland and Alec Baldwin. Executive produced by Cary Brokaw and produced by Avenue Pictures, the film portrays the dramatic sweep of Lyndon Johnson's presidency from his election by the greatest majority in American history and his achievements with the Great Society to the country's devastation as it is torn apart by the escalation of the Vietnam War. The story focuses on how Johnson's advisors, many inherited from John F. Kennedy's cabinet, counseled the President to pour money and men into Vietnam and yet failed to find a way to end the war even when it became clear that their strategies had failed.
"Path to War" will premiere on May 18th on HBO.
