GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2002
Acterna (Nasdaq:ACTR) today announced the launch of the Acterna FST-2000 TestPad, the second-generation release of its handheld, modular, platform which is currently used by all major U.S. service providers and manufacturers.
The TestPad platform now integrates wireless and Web technology to allow service providers to improve workforce productivity and streamline processes when installing and maintaining metro services and network elements.
Improved Connectivity Speeds Installation, Troubleshooting and Commissioning
The Acterna FST-2000 TestPad now offers connectivity through Ethernet, wireless and dial-up interfaces. These new connectivity interfaces permit testing by both on-site and remote technicians to effectively troubleshoot network problems. An integrated Web browser also allows technicians to access Web based information and configure network elements without a separate tool.
A file transfer protocol (FTP) client enables the upload of test results to a centralized database for service assurance.
Custom and Automated Testing Streamlines Procedures
The FST-2000's Web interface streamlines testing and reduces technician downtime by allowing technicians to directly access Acterna's NetAnalyst Test Management Software and Acterna CenTest remote test units. This feature saves time for field technicians because they can access the information they need to perform tests without having to wait for NOC personnel for assistance.
Technicians can employ another time saving feature, customized test scripts, to easily and efficiently step through specific test sequences.
Bluetooth Technology Offers Convenience
Bluetooth technology allows technicians to control the test set through a wireless connection from a distance of up to 50 feet. By using a Bluetooth-compatible laptop, technicians can conveniently conduct tests from a well-lit location or service vehicle, rather than inside a utility closet or atop a utility pole.
"In today's economic environment, service providers need solutions that not only address technology challenges, but also improve the installation and maintenance process," said Jerry Gentile, vice president of marketing, access networks. "The connectivity and Web enabled features of the new Acterna TestPad platform allow these providers to optimize workflow processes and overall efficiency, which results in more installations per day, as well as reduced repeat-repair rates, reduced mean time to repair, and higher quality of service."
The Acterna FST-2000 TestPad will be showcased with a variety of new broadband networking solutions at Supercomm in Atlanta, June 4-6, at Acterna booth 23246.
