Microtek Lab, Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, has released a new version of its professional-class scanner software, ScanWizard Pro 7.0, that works with Apple's operating system Mac OS X. With its newly designed Aqua user interface, ScanWizard Pro 7.0 will be showcased at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in San Jose, California, May 7, 2002. Microtek released ScanWizard Pro 7.0 for the ScanMaker 8700 professional desktop scanner series on April 1, 2002 and is offering a free download from its Web site, www.microtekusa.com.

Kristin Lee, Microtek project manager and designer of the new Aqua-style interface of ScanWizard Pro 7.0, says "Apple's Aqua interface brings graphics capabilities to Mac OS X beyond anything ever seen in a desktop operating system. My design goal was to ensure the integrity of Apple's Aqua interface guidelines in ScanWizard Pro 7.0's user interface. Working closely with Apple, I was able to submit concepts to its Worldwide Developer Relations group, who provided valuable input and direction during the design process. Lee, who will represent Microtek at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference, will discuss the advantages for developers to fully implement Apple's user interface guidelines when carbonizing their software for Mac OS X. By following Apple's guidelines, Microtek offers a user interface that seamlessly mirrors Apple's Aqua look and feel.

At present, ScanWizard Pro 7.0 is available as a stand-alone application, with a Photoshop 7.0 plug-in beta version currently in testing. The carbonized scanner software supports the ScanMaker 8700 series. Posted on Microtek's Web site is a preliminary ScanWizard Pro 7.0 release schedule for Microtek's line of professional scanners.

A free download for current ScanMaker 8700 Pro Design owners is available, while ScanMaker 8700 users can obtain an upgrade package to ScanWizard Pro 7.0 from ScanWizard 5.
