SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2002

Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. (OTCBB:PNWK, Frankfurt:PNT), a provider of technology, equipment and services that merge broadcast-quality video transport with packet-based broadband networks announced today that The Cable Center and its partners C-SPAN and the University of Denver are using Path 1 Cx1000 series IP video network gateways for their Global Distance Learning Program. The new network links The Cable Center to the public affairs cable channels of C-SPAN.

University of Denver students attend classes at The Cable Center and interact with lectures from C-SPAN studios in Washington, D.C., via a live, two-way television link. A complete control room allows both the students and the instructor to see a variety of views as the class is taught, including a view of the professor, an overhead view to see any papers or materials being presented, and both wide and close shots of the students for the professor in Washington.

Path 1 CEO Frederick A. Cary states, "Path 1 was The Cable Center's preferred resource for building the IP network infrastructure which is currently in deployment. Path 1's Cx1000 IP video gateway performed flawlessly in initial testing and delivered the video quality and stability that The Cable Center and higher education instructors require."

Path1's Cx1000 was chosen because of its multicasting features, compatibility with legacy equipment and ability to remove network impairments typically associated with the delivery of broadcast-quality video over IP networks. Multicasting allows The Cable Center and its partners in this five-year pilot program to produce and study distance-learning programs and to broadcast live classroom events to multiple geographic sites if required, while broadcast quality video provides an experience much closer to that of an actual classroom.

The Cable Center President and CEO Jim O'Brien explains, "Our goal was to provide broadcast-quality images with real-time response for both the student at the instructor. Additionally, we needed the ability to show tape -- again, with broadcast quality -- across the network in order to take advantage of the vast archives of C-SPAN for these classes." Path 1 network equipment and technologies provided to The Cable Center can help enable participating universities to create degree programs with no residency requirements, lower instructor costs and duplicate experiences that occur in the classroom. The Cable Center hopes to eventually expand this program to colleges and universities throughout the world.

Transmission problems solved with Path 1's Cx1000 IP Video Gateway included: jitter, packet reordering, lost packets and error correction. Path 1 technology and interfaces are compatible with The Cable Center and C-SPAN's legacy broadcast equipment and The Cable Center reports that this resulted in significant savings in time and capital investment. Distance learning is an interactive way of delivering education and training through multimedia technology (voice, video and data) so that people can learn new concepts regardless of time, location or on-site teaching resources. IDC predicts that spending on distance-learning technology by colleges and universities across the U.S. will grow to $744 million in 2004.
