WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2002

4) Tattoos 9) Prom Hairstyles
5) Britney Spears 10) KaZaA

Notes of Interest:

As Dragonball fell to number two this week, the new Lycos search leader is not the topic movie fans expected. While Spider-Man shattered box office records over the weekend, it was recently deceased R&B star Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes who was number one with Web users on The Lycos 50. Lopes moved up from number eight last week while her group TLC also gained popularity online, moving up from number 35 to number 13. When Nascar legend Dale Earnhardt passed away last year, Web users searched frantically for alleged autopsy photos of Earnhardt online, pushing Earnhardt to number one. The Earnhardt autopsy photos did not exist but autopsy shots of Lopes have appeared on the Internet. The gruesome photos show Lopes with her head bloodied, with a morgue employee in the background.

Say it Loud, He's Back and Proud:

Controversial rapper Eminem (#15) stormed back onto The Lycos 50 for the first time since Sept. 11 thanks to the release of the first single, "Without Me" off his new album The Eminem Show. As the song says, "We need a little controversy, cause it feels too empty without me."

Spidey Cents:

While Spider-Man (#3) enjoyed a record-crushing box office bonanza, The Lycos 50 predicts Spider-Man costumes will also be huge this Halloween. Generally speaking, searches for Halloween costumes begin to peak in late September, but Web users are already searching for Spidey costumes now. Last week, twice as many Web users searched for Spider-Man costumes than for Star Wars costumes. Meanwhile, another movie blockbuster, Lord of the Rings, dropped off the list after 25 weeks, but it is expected to return when The Two Towers premieres later this year.

Reality TV: Frontier House vs. The Osbournes:

Last week, more Web users searched for the PBS reality series Frontier House than for MTV's mega-hit, The Osburnes. Neither reality series receives enough search activity to make The Lycos 50, but more Web users do search for the Montana-based Frontier House, where three families experience life as it was in the 1880s. As for the Osbournes, Ozzy received more searches than any other member of his family. His eldest daughter Aimee, the 18-year-old who decided to opt out of the first series of tapings, is the second most popular Osborne based on search activity.
