and Storage Networking Lab expansion

Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN), a worldwide leader in data storage and information management, will feature its complete portfolio of network tape solutions and services in Booth #835 during the NetWorld Interop 2002 conference and exhibition at the Las Vegas Convention Center, May 7-9, 2002. These offerings include Imation's expanding line of tape products for the entry-level and mid-range server markets, and advanced storage network consulting services.

"Storage needs across the network continue to grow exponentially, so does the value of the data being saved. Tape media remains one of the most cost-effective solutions for backing up data, with new formats offering higher capacity and faster data access than ever before," said Jim Ellis, director, business strategy, Imation. "Networks are increasingly distributed and require more centralized storage management, elevating tape storage to a strategic level within many IT organizations. With more than 50 years of tape cartridge technology leadership, Imation is delivering the products and services end-users need to better manage their network storage."

Imation Travan(TM) 40GB

Imation is now shipping Travan 40 GB tape cartridges to Seagate Removable Storage Solutions (RSS) in support of Seagate's launch of the Hornet 40 internal drive and TapeStor Travan 40 bundled solutions to their distributors and to OEMs that manufacture PC workstations and entry-level servers. Imation-branded Travan 40GB tape cartridges are due to be available to Imation distributors in late summer.

Imation Travan 40GB tape cartridges offer 20GB native and up to 40GB compressed storage capacity. Based on linear recording, Travan technology is an efficient cartridge and drive design that reduces tape stress, ensures data integrity and increases drive and cartridge reliability.

Imation launched Travan technology in 1995 and Seagate RSS partnered with Imation to develop drives based on this technology. Travan technology is a reliable, cost-effective data backup and archiving solution for small-to-medium businesses, with more than 10 million Travan drives shipped worldwide.

Imation Universal Ultrium Cleaning Cartridge

Imation will announce this week the availability of its new Universal Ultrium cleaning cartridge. The new cartridge enables end-users to purchase a single cleaning cartridge for use with all Generation 1 LTO (Linear Tape Open) Ultrium tape drives, reducing the time and cost of supporting several different drives.

The number of cleanings per cartridge is based on how the drive performs the cleaning process. The cartridge cleans the drive by shuffling a certain amount of tape over the drive head at a particular cleaning algorithm unique to the drive. Different amounts of tape are used for each drive. The Imation Universal Ultrium cleaning cartridge adapts to the particular drive being used.
