LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2002

Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq:MUSE), the leading provider of service and business assurance software, today announced the Netcool(R)/System Service Monitors(TM) (Netcool/SSMs(TM)) suite.

The Netcool/SSMs suite ensures availability of business critical applications by monitoring the status of Windows NT/2000/XP, Unix and Linux hosts and servers in realtime. In addition, the intelligent and customizable solution automatically detects and helps repair problems before system and application uptime is interrupted.

"Enterprises require performance management solutions that enable them to proactively ensure the uptime of their host systems and servers," said Corey Ferengul, Vice President with META Group. "Realtime monitoring solutions are necessary and can add value to the overall business by improving the productivity of IT staff and by discovering problems and speeding problem diagnosis and resolution before they impact the bottom line."

How Netcool/SSMs Work

Netcool/SSMs proactively monitor metrics that reflect the condition of host systems' status, security, performance, availability, configuration, users, applications and file systems. Then Netcool/SSMs automatically notify IT personnel when errors occur or thresholds are exceeded. In addition, Netcool/SSMs isolate potential problems and can be customized to provide diagnostic repair based on pre-defined rules and thresholds set by the user. This helps increase the uptime of business-critical applications such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, and Siebel, as well as improve the productivity of IT staff.

Netcool/SSMs monitor Host Resources, System Resources, Performance and System Processes (including Start/Stop/Restart). Combined, this provides critical data on all system devices, so problems like poor CPU performance and disk I/O bottlenecks can be quickly detected and fixed. The Netcool/SSMs suite also provides host-based intrusion detection capabilities by monitoring for excessive login attempts, denial-of-service-attacks and port-scanning, helping IT organizations protect business critical applications against intruders.

In addition to Netcool/SSMs, the Netcool/Service Monitors(TM) solutions include other performance management applications such as the Netcool/Usage Service Monitors(TM) (Netcool/USMs) suite announced last week, the Netcool/Internet Service Monitors(TM) (Netcool/ISMs) suite and the Netcool/Wireless Service Monitors(TM) (Netcool/WSMs) suite. When used in combination with Netcool/Data Center Monitors(TM), which monitor IBM iSeries and mainframe systems, the Netcool/SSMs suite monitors the performance and availability of business critical applications across the entire IT infrastructure.

The Netcool/SSMs suite will become generally available later this month. The software will be demonstrated for the first time at NetWorld+Interop in Las Vegas on May 7th - 9th, at Micromuse booth #1721.
