Advanced Digital Information Corporation (Nasdaq:ADIC) and Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP), a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, announced certification of ADIC's entire family of Scalar(R) storage networking libraries for the Network Appliance(TM) Fibre Channel (FC) Tape storage area network (SAN) backup solution.

The comprehensive certification provides a set of solutions enabling customers to reduce local area network (LAN) traffic and backup server workload by consolidating backup for multiple NetApp(R) storage appliances in a SAN environment. Supported solutions include any Scalar 100, Scalar 1000, or Scalar 10K storage networking library with a broad range of tape technologies and backup software applications. This certification provides proven solution choices for a wide range of IT environments, from medium-sized to fast-growing enterprise-scale installations.

The ADIC and Network Appliance FC Tape SAN backup solution offers greater flexibility than conventional backup solutions by allowing multiple storage appliances to access multiple-drive tape-based storage resources on the same storage area network. The solutions range from workgroup-sized library units to data center-class data protection installations. Because all filers can access all tape devices in the SAN, this backup solution provides a structure that can support dynamic drive sharing by standard backup software applications.

The solution also allows NetApp storage appliances to share an ADIC Scalar library with other servers in the SAN environment, and enables Fibre Channel connectivity in non-switched environments as well. Software packages included in the qualification are VERITAS NetBackup, Legato NetWorker, CommVault Galaxy, and Syncsort Backup Express.

ADIC's Scalar series tape libraries provide highly scalable data protection for a broad range of data storage environments. Models certified under the Network Appliance FC Fabric Tape SAN backup solution range from 1 to over 600 drives and from 15 to over 15,000 data cartridges, with supported tape technologies that include AIT-2, DLT, SDLT, and IBM LTO. Scalar storage networking libraries offer the industry's first suite of integrated SAN management services, including built-in SAN security, integrated path verification, redundant path support, error recovery, and performance optimization.

All ADIC libraries also provide backup support for NetApp storage appliances over SCSI connections.
