Curriculum equips students with latest instructional technology and
the knowledge to put it to work in the classroom
American InterContinental University Online (AIU Online), the online division of Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ:CECO), today announced the launch of a new online degree program: the Master's of Education in Instructional Technology. The program is the first available 100 % online program to integrate rich multimedia and interactive learning tools throughout the curriculum.
"This program will offer advanced degree opportunities for educators in many fields, whether it's corporate training, elementary or secondary education, or higher education," said Nick Fluge, chief operating officer of AIU Online and executive vice president of Career Education Corporation. "Career advancement and increased expertise in the use of technology in educational delivery will now be possible because of this new program." The Master's of Education program will afford degree recipients the opportunity to advance their current careers and will also position them to remain at the forefront of modern education.
"This exciting new curriculum was created and built to appeal to a wide variety of educators. From traditional classroom teachers to military trainers to corporate learning specialists, the degree will empower graduates with an understanding of the latest technological theories and practices as they exist today and how they will evolve and be applied to learning models of the future," said Dr. Robin Throne, provost at AIU Online.
AIU Online Master's of Education students will be learning, first hand, from the latest instructional technology and learning methodologies they themselves may use in the future. Thus, giving students invaluable insight into how they, too, can incorporate similar technology into their own teaching practices. Students will begin the program by focusing on key concepts so they can develop a solid foundation in learning theory, instructional design and instructional technology.
"When students enroll in this program, they will get all the other benefits which go hand-in-hand with an online education: freedom to study online, anytime," stated Paul Gleason, director of development at AIU Online. "It's convenient and lends itself to personal lifestyles and individual schedules."
Since AIU Online is a pioneer in the field of online education and a participant in the U.S. Department of Education Demonstration Program for Distance Education, students will learn via rich course content that goes far beyond the traditional text-based tutorials offered elsewhere, including multimedia online presentations, interactive classroom discussions, live web-broadcast teaching sessions and professor-led projects.
Like other AIU Online degree programs, the Master's of Education degree is an accelerated program. The 8-course program can be completed in 10 months, assuming the student has successfully completed a bachelor's degree. Courses include Understanding the Learning Process, Computer-Mediated Learning Environments, Curriculum Design and Evaluation and others.
As Dr. Robin Throne stated, "After students earn their degree with AIU Online, they will be better suited for the future of education. That's education that leverages the power of technology in order to be more effective and complete."
Applications for admission to AIU Online's new Master's of Education in Instructional Technology degree program are now being taken. Classes begin February 1, 2003. Additional information is available at: www.aiuonline.edu, or by calling 877-701-3800 toll free.
