AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 2002
Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today announced availability of the Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor running at 3.06GHz on select Dimension(tm) and OptiPlex(tm) desktop computers, and Dell Precision(tm) workstations.
Customers can purchase systems with a 3.06GHz processor utilizing Hyper-Threading (HT) Technology, which can enable customers to do more tasks in less time. The technology makes more efficient use of processing power by utilizing moments of idle cycles that allow for the processor to work on more than one request simultaneously.
Consumers using the HT-enabled Dimension 8250 system can expect better overall performance when running multiple computing tasks. For example, a customer can now convert a video clip from one format to another while watching a DVD without interruption, or edit digital photographs while adding to their digital music collection. Users can convert their CD collection to a digital format while enjoying a CPU-intensive game without sacrificing frame rate. Finally, a small business can convert a document to PDF format while running a virus scan in the background.
"We believe consumers who demand high-performance will find our Dimension desktops with Hyper-Threading Technology appealing," said Mark Vena, director of Dimension product marketing. "The systems offer the fast 3D graphic cards, 4X DVD writeable drives(a), and hard drives that can provide more than 200GB(b) of storage. We're working every day to make better computing power available to our customers at the best value, and to help keep Dimension the preferred brand for performance."
Workstation professionals using the Dell Precision 350 will likewise see performance benefits of HT Technology. Digital content creators can render more animations in less time, and video editors can see a performance increase in transitions and other complex visual effects.
Corporate desktop customers can order 3.06GHz models of the OptiPlex GX260 and SX260.
