MetLife Hires David Monfried as Head of Corporate Communications

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 2002

MetLife announced today that David M. Monfried will join the company as senior vice president in charge of Corporate Communications on December 9, 2002.

Reporting to Lisa M. Weber, senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Mr. Monfried will be responsible for MetLife's Advertising, Creative Services, Internal Communications and Public Relations.

Mr. Monfried comes to MetLife from The St. Paul Companies, where he has been vice president of Corporate Communications after having joined the company in 1998. In that position, he was responsible for the company's internal and external communications programs, including media relations; employee, financial and executive communications; advertising and branding.

Prior to The St. Paul, Mr. Monfried held a similar position from 1993 to 1998 with Dun & Bradstreet Corporation. There he was heavily involved with the communications surrounding the 1996 restructuring of Dun & Bradstreet into three publicly traded companies.

From 1983 to 1993, Mr. Monfried was manager of corporate communications for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He began his career at The Equitable, which has since been acquired by AXA Financial, ultimately managing its public relations, advertising and sports marketing programs.

He is a graduate of Rutgers University and holds a B.A. in journalism.
