Web-Enabled Solution Connects Students to Florida

State's Mainframe Data

NEON(R) Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:NEON), a leading provider of Software to Liberate the Mainframe(TM), received the Government Technology Conference (GTC) Exhibitor Best Solution award for its Web-enabled solution for Florida State University (FSU). NEON's award was for facilitating the development of FSyou! Information Central, an online system that provides student affairs services using Web-enabled solutions from NEON Systems' Shadow technology. The award was presented by Larry Singer, chief information officer for the State of Georgia, at the 2002 Southeast GTC in Atlanta, Nov. 12, 2002.

Every year, GTC, the largest tech conference/expo dedicated to state and local government, recognizes vendors for developing successful customer solutions that result in significant benefits for a specific customer. FSU wanted to create an eBusiness Web site through which students and staff could effectively communicate and conduct student affairs. To accomplish this, the University needed to provide new applications with access to DB2 data while simultaneously Web-enabling many of its existing mainframe applications.

Working together, NEON Systems' Shadow division and FSU's Technology Development Group determined that implementing Shadow Technology and custom application modules would meet FSU's requirements. This combination of technology allowed FSU to Web-enable 26 applications in eight months. Today, FSU students, faculty and administration all make use of the new and existing applications, resulting in millions of hits a month on the Web server, significant productivity improvements among administrative staff members, and increased responsiveness to students' needs.
