ORLANDO, Fla. & WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2002
AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI), today announced a partnership with Juniper Bank of Wilmington, Del., to offer the most industry-competitive reward-earning credit card program with the new AirTran A-Plus Visa credit card. This is the low-fare airline's first credit card offering and dovetails with their flight, not mileage-based, A-Plus Rewards frequent flier program, creating an even faster means to earn a free ticket.
Juniper Bank is one of the fastest growing credit card issuers in the country. The partnership with AirTran Airways follows several other travel-oriented alliances.
Congruent with the simplicity of A-Plus Rewards, the AirTran A-Plus card enables consumers to earn one point for every dollar spent. When purchasing travel on AirTran Airways with the card, consumers may earn two points per dollar. One thousand points equal one flight credit, and 12 flight credits (or 12,000 points) may be redeemed for one roundtrip coach ticket. In step with the current A-Plus Rewards program, 24 flight credits earn a free ticket to any non-AirTran Airways destination on any one of 14 other airlines. In addition, the card offers:
-- Four free flight credits with the first card purchase -- Up to three flight credits with balance transfers -- Credits may also be redeemed for free upgrades to Business Class -- One of the lowest reward-based card annual fees - $39 -- A low 3.9 percent APR introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers(a) for six months, and a competitive rate thereafter. (a)Balance transfers incur a nominal fee.
"AirTran Airways is thrilled to partner with a high quality organization such as Juniper Bank, enabling us to be the first to offer such an aggressive program for our passengers," said Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways' director of marketing. "Through this partnership, we are pleased to provide a tremendous opportunity to the flying public to earn a free ticket quicker than ever."
Consumers may apply for the card by filling out an application online at airtranaplusvisa.com, at any AirTran Airways airport location or by calling 866-389-7877.
"We are excited about our new partnership with AirTran Airways," said Kevin Kleinschmidt, Juniper Bank's director of relationship marketing. "AirTran Airways is a remarkable company, innovative and unwavering. We are proud to align our company with theirs for what is the most competitive and best value among airline credit card programs."
AirTran Airways is America's second-largest low-fare airline - employing 5,400 professional Crew Members and serving 398 flights a day to 40 destinations. The airline never requires a roundtrip purchase or Saturday night stay, and offers an affordable Business Class, assigned seating, easy online booking and check-in, the A-Plus Rewards frequent flier program, and the A2B corporate travel program. AirTran Airways also is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., (NYSE:AAI), and the world's largest operator of the Boeing 717, the most modern, environmentally friendly aircraft in its class.
