CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 2002
United Airlines (NYSE:UAL) today announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) on labor cost savings as a part of the company's overall financial recovery plan. The TWU represents meteorologists at United. The agreement is consistent with the framework agreed upon by the United Airlines Union Coalition and the company. The agreement is subject to approval by the Labor Committee of the UAL board of directors, as well as the board itself. In addition, it requires ratification by United's meteorologists.
"Negotiating teams for United and the TWU have been working hard over the weekend to take this important step in supporting the company's financial recovery program," said Glenn Tilton, United's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Clearly, the TWU understands the importance of the goals we are working to accomplish and I applaud them for tackling this challenge head-on. This agreement, the second with one of United's unions in 48 hours, is a firm indication that the company and all of its unions are intensely focused on United's future success and financial health."
United operates nearly 1,800 flights a day on a route network that spans the globe. News releases and other information about United may be found at the company's website at www.united.com.
