The concept spearheading the exhibition is the collaboration of media between two of Korea's renowned creators, Hwang Young Sung and Bae Young Jin. Bae with fashion and Hwang with painting and sculpture illustrate the rich dialogue between art media as well as the renaissance of Korean art by synthesizing their bodies of work.

Hwang and Bae, are two of Korea's seminal creators who work in multiple media and whose works are assimilated into the cultural arena. Their creations are commonly seen in art galleries, museums and public spaces and their art is integrated into life, a goal sought by artists of the past such as the Russian avant-garde, but rarely accomplished. Hwang and Bae exemplify and demonstrate the cohesion and interdisciplinary traditions of the Asian arts that have historically been interrelated.

The two leitmotifs, collaboration and regeneration, will be the focus both of the show and the discussion of the accompanying symposium which will take place at the Parsons auditorium in the 66 Fifth Avenue galleries, on Saturday December 7th, 2002 between 4-6 P.M. The curators and a distinguished panel of scholars and critics will consider the historic context under which Korean arts have been operating for generations, as well as contemporary developments that impact the artists and their generation.

In addition to the curators the discussants will include: Dr. Lee Yong Woo one of the original organizers of the Gwang Ju Bienial and a well-known international critic; Eleanor Heartney a prominent critic and specialist in the area of Asian Studies, the contemporary art critic and curator Raoul Zamudio, and the chairperson of Parsons Fashion Design, Timothy Gunn.
