Ipswitch, Inc., the maker of WS_FTP Pro, the world's most popular FTP (file transfer protocol) product, announced today it has kicked off a "WS_FTP-a-thon" on its company Web site that is expected to raise nearly $15,000 for Big Brothers of Mass Bay. For every copy of WS_FTP Pro sold through its Web site from now through mid-December, Ipswitch will donate $1 to Big Brothers of Mass Bay. The local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Big Brothers of Mass Bay is a volunteer-based service organization that creates and nurtures relationships between adults and children through everyday activities.
WS_FTP is used by millions of people around the world as an easy, reliable, efficient and secure way to transfer files on the Internet. The "WS_FTP-a-thon" is the latest example of Ipswitch's continued commitment to benefit charitable causes in unique ways. Last year, Ipswitch's "Download-a-thon," which donated money based on the number of people downloading evaluation versions of Ipswitch products from its Web site, raised $20,000 for five organizations, including the American Red Cross and American Heart Association. Both Web charitable programs were created with the help of corporate philanthropic consultant Responsible World of Boston.
"We're excited use our Web site again as a means to benefit the community and expand the impact of our charitable mission," said Roger Greene, president and founder of Ipswitch. "While this has been a sub-par year in terms of profits, we remain profitable and are committed to helping our communities, despite the economy's ups and downs. People purchasing WS_FTP Pro during this event can feel good that their purchase will benefit such a worthy cause."
Ipswitch's corporate philanthropy program is part of its corporate mission and is linked to its revenue growth and profitability. Through 2002, Ipswitch has donated nearly $72,000 in cash and $8,500 in products to 22 community organizations. This includes $15,000 donated to employees' charities of choice to recognize their third anniversary with Ipswitch and $2,000 donated to celebrate the birth of Ipswitch employees' children.
