BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2002

Product Sight's Dr. Ravi Rangan and Ford Motor Company's Dr. Ken Butts Participate on Panel, Sharing Results of Ford's SyncroSpec Based Model

Management System

Product Sight, the leader in Concurrent Product Specification software, announced the contributions of user panel speaker Dr. Ken Butts, a Product Sight SyncroSpec(TM) user and leader in model based development at Ford Motor Company, and of vendor panel speaker Dr. Ravi Rangan, Product Sight's chief technical officer, at D.H. Brown Associates, Inc.'s recent Product Lifecycle Road Map 2002(TM) conference.

Wayne Collier, D.H. Brown's chief analyst, Product Lifecycle Management, led the session entitled "The 12-Fold Way(TM), Gaining Implementation Benefits". The session began with user case studies demonstrating the implementation results from product definition environments that link multiple product representations and shared important lessons learned on how to gain business benefits through product modeling.

Wayne cited Ford's SyncroSpec Model Management System as a real world example showing the implementation benefits to be gained from the integration of customer use models, along with functional and behavioral configurations. These extra dimensions described by D.H. Brown's 12-Fold Way process are not possible with traditional "PDM" systems that focus on bottom up physical product descriptions.

Panel speaker Dr. Ken Butts of Ford Motor Company's Electrical/Electronic Systems Engineering organization featured Product Sight's SyncroSpec solution prominently in the discussion. He described how Ford Motor Company's Model Management System for embedded automobile controller development uses Product Sight's SyncroSpec software to provide a highly efficient collaborative environment for sharing systems models.

Dr. Butts explained that, "A modeling community is needed where knowledge is extracted and imparted by all involved. This sharing of knowledge needs to extend beyond just exchanging files." The solution at Ford Motor Company has improved design reuse and quality, and cut the development time of reusable software components. By implementing model based development that is now supported by configuration, change control, and approval processes through SyncroSpec, Dr. Butts explained how his organization has reduced the time it takes to release fully functional software by 43 percent, while cutting cumulative errors by over 75 percent.

"Product Sight understands the best practices that apply to advanced engineering for control systems embedded in today's automobiles," Dr. Butts commented. "Their SyncroSpec software has proven the value of a model management system with capabilities for structuring multiple representations for different purposes. Model management systems such as this are key to realizing the benefits of a model-based development strategy."

Dr. Rangan joined Collier and other panel members to provide vendor responses on advanced product definition. Dr. Rangan's participation focused on how Product Sight's SyncroSpec software offers business ready solutions with built in support for connecting the multiple representations core to D.H. Brown's The 12-Fold Way, a strategy for gaining business benefit through product modeling. Dr. Rangan was enthusiastic about the quality of the program and stated, "It's gratifying to have both PLM visionaries and real world results validate the importance of our unique Concurrent Product Specification approach with autonomy and continuity across lifecycle functions beyond CAD engineering."
