PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2002
PSC Inc. (PSCX.OB), a global provider of integrated data-collection products and services for the retail supply chain, today announced availability of the Magellan(R) 8100, a value-priced compact point-of-sale scanner.
The new scanner is designed to enable maximum checkout productivity for cost-conscious retailers. The Magellan 8100 replaces the Magellan SL, which will be discontinued by early 2003.
The Magellan 8100 combines the popular SlimLine(TM) compact form and 360-degree scanning capability of the Magellan SL with the "smart" data collection and processing technology of the newest Magellan scanners at an entry level price-point. The Magellan 8100 reads the new RSS bar codes, which are expected to appear on perishables in the near future and which can potentially save retailers millions of dollars per year. With its FirstStrike(TM) intelligent decoding software, the Magellan 8100 efficiently reads poor quality and truncated bar code labels. Additionally, the scanner's patented All-Weighs(TM) scale platter can significantly reduce produce shrinkage.
Other Magellan 8100 "smart" features include flash memory, which allows its software to be easily updated, and host diagnostic reporting, which informs retailers when the scanner needs to be serviced, thereby improving uptime.
"The release of the Magellan 8100 is an important milestone in PSC's initiative to replace the popular Magellan SL bioptic scanner with a family of scanners designed to provide customers with a wide variety of choices when selecting a scanner to best fit their needs," said David Sullivan, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "No matter what the requirement, the Magellan family offers a solution to fit the individual customer's requirements."
