WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 2002
As a leading partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WasteWise program, the agency named Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (LP) (NYSE:LPX) a Program Champion for its waste reduction activities.
This distinction recognizes LP's concerted effort to educate its employees about environmental responsibility and continuously improve its waste reduction programs.
LP is at the forefront of a natural balance approach to the wood products industry, having recycled 5.6 billion pounds of wood by-products, scrap metal and plastics in 2001. LP's corporate-wide waste prevention and recycling efforts included using more than 3 billion pounds of waste for energy recovery, and a 74.6 million pound reduction in total disposal volumes. This effort represented a 43% reduction from waste disposed in 2000.
The company also considers environmental impacts when developing new products, such as Cocoon(R) cellulose insulation and TechShield(R) radiant barrier panels. Both are environmentally smart and energy-conscious products that are made from recycled content materials.
LP is one of 53 organizations to receive an award at the WasteWise Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony, on October 10, 2002, in Washington, D.C. For further information, visit the WasteWise Web site, www.epa.gov/wastewise, or contact the WasteWise Helpline at 1.800.EPA.WISE (372.9473). Photos from the event will be available upon request.
WasteWise is a free, and voluntary partnership program launched by EPA in 1994. The program provides guidance and recognition to nearly 1,300 participating organizations working to find practical methods to reduce municipal solid waste and improve financial performance.
LP is a premier supplier of building materials, delivering innovative, high-quality commodity and specialty products to its retail, wholesale, homebuilding and industrial customers. Visit LP's web site at www.lpcorp.com for additional information on the company.
