AmSurg Corp. Climbs to 44th On Forbes 2002 List of the 200 Best Small Companies in America From 79th Last Year; First Appears On List Two Years Ago Ranked 139th

Ken P. McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer of AmSurg Corp. (Nasdaq:AMSG), today announced that for the third consecutive year, the Company has been included in the annual listing by Forbes of the "200 Best Small Companies in America". AmSurg substantially improved its ranking for the latest year, placing 44th on the list for 2002 compared with 79th and 139th for 2001 and 2000, respectively.
Mr. McDonald commented, "AmSurg's selection to Forbes' `200 Best Small Companies in America' ranking for the third consecutive year reflects the consistency of our operating and financial performance. For each of the 18 consecutive quarters that AmSurg has been a public company, we have achieved new records for revenues and net income, as well as increased same-center revenues. We attribute our ability to produce these superior results to the consistency with which we provide added value for our physician partners, their patients and third-party healthcare payers."
AmSurg Corp. develops, acquires and manages physician practice-based ambulatory surgery centers in partnership with surgical and other group practices. At June 30, 2002, AmSurg owned a majority interest in 97 centers and had five centers under development.
