CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 2002
The ISO Standards and Industrial Additions Library for Intergraph SmartPlant(R) P&ID 3.0 is available from the Process, Power & Offshore division of Intergraph Corporation (NASDAQ:INGR), the company announced today at the ISA 2002 Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Conference and Exhibition. Featuring more than 920 components, the library saves time, eliminates reference database customization, reduces standards variations, enforces consistency and makes SmartPlant P&ID a more universal and flexible tool for engineering design in a variety of industries.
Addition of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards to the product's existing ANSI, DIN and PIP (Process Industry Practices) reference database meets customer demand due to increased use of SmartPlant P&ID and its global worksharing features for major engineering and plant construction projects. In addition to enforcing project consistency, the library helps enable faster project startup, since users don't have to select, develop, check and import standards and symbols in a customized reference database.
Library Includes ISO Symbols, Additions
The new reference database library includes ISO symbols compatible with the SmartPlant P&ID data dictionary, rules, filters and formats; ISO standard templates and title blocks for P&IDs; example reports; fluid code lists (in accordance with de facto Intergraph and PSK standards) as well as add-ons specifically for chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, oil and gas and pulp and paper industries. The library's standards include ISO 10628 (flow diagrams for process plants), ISO 3511 1-4 (process measurement control functions and instrumentation - symbolic representation) and ISO 5457 (technical product documentation - sizes and layout of drawing sheets). The add-ons include industry-specific symbols and corresponding data structures, rules, labels and breaks, borders and title blocks as well as ISO standard fonts.
The library is implemented within SmartPlant P&ID 3.0 through standard symbology, functionality and the software's intelligent engineering rulebase and data dictionary. Representations of piping and instrument components are applied in SmartPlant P&ID with the recommended colors, text format and symbol configurations. The standards are used when authoring P&IDs, creating a new plant or new symbols within SmartPlant P&ID and as reference or a template for further modification.
SmartPlant P&ID Enables Intelligent Engineering
SmartPlant P&ID (www.intergraph.com/ppo/smartplant/sp_pid.asp) is data-centric, rule-based, CAD-free, integrated engineering software for creating intelligent piping and instrumentation diagrams. Featuring global worksharing, an engineering rulebase, a simple user interface with drag-and-drop functionality, ANSI, DIN, PIP and ISO standards and advanced integration and calculation/automation capabilities, SmartPlant P&ID runs on the Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows NT operating systems. SmartPlant P&ID integrates with Intergraph INtools(R), SmartSketch(R), PDS(TM), SmartPlant Markup and SmartPlant Explorer as well as Aspen Zyqad.
SmartPlant P&ID significantly reduces design time and increases accuracy, answering crucial business needs such as cost and risk reduction, improved ROI on engineering IT and O&M support through advanced technology and integration. Aimed at automating as much of the P&ID process as possible, SmartPlant P&ID allows users to focus on design and engineering rather than iterative CAD tasks. Only SmartPlant P&ID offers true intelligent objects supported by associated data and enforced engineering rules, international standards, company best practices and automatic calculations. Typical users include instrumentation, piping and process engineers designing, maintaining or modifying process plant systems.
Through global worksharing, firms can further reduce costs and accelerate schedules while increasing engineering quality. Worksharing enables prime contractors to parcel out parts of a project to subcontractors or to their own workgroups or field offices. When the sub-projects are complete, SmartPlant P&ID merges the P&IDs into a central data store, providing a single, consistent project environment for the plant owner or engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
