COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 2002
STORServer(R) Inc., the storage protection leader in Backup Appliances, announced that it has developed a unique capability for Open VMS with its new software product, STORServer Data Protection for Oracle on Open VMS (SDP).
The only software product to provide data protection for Oracle on Open VMS, "SDP provides the power of centralized backup/archive management, online backup and restore, incremental backup, and automated storage management functions," says STORServer President John Pearring. "This is a backup scheme that never requires shutting down Oracle."
Designed to be "application-aware," SDP offers data protection that tightly integrates with Oracle8i and Oracle9i database," says David Miller, the software's developer. "This tight integration means that you gain all of the benefits of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), OpenVMS and Oracle with little or no impact on your databases, while increasing your applications overall availability."
SDP--in conjunction with TSM--automates data protection and allows the Oracle database server to continue executing mission critical applications while safely securing data to offline storage. "Being able to manage and automate data protection on running database servers vastly reduces costly application downtime and saves money," Miller continues.
The software works with TSM and Oracle's backup-certified Recovery Manager (RMAN), says Diane Sullivan, STORServer's director of software sales and marketing. "SDP minimizes system and application outages, increases administrator productivity and provides superior backup performance. This indestructible combination--along with the robustness, reliability and High Availability (HA) features of the OpenVMS operating system--provide a powerful backup and archive solution application data."
SDP provides the capability to store data on a wide variety of storage devices, as well as perform a variety of functions, including:
-- Full or tablespace backup of a database while it is online or off-line -- Full database restores either online or offline -- Tablespace restore while database is offline -- Backups of archive log files -- Block level incremental backup of changed database pages -- Oracle backups with virtually no application impact.
System requirements for the software include: Oracle 9i or Oracle 8i, and OpenVMS 7.2 or greater. Products are sold through a nationwide distribution of resellers. For more information on STORServer(R) products, please visit www.storserver.com or call (888) 786-7765.
