ST-LAURENT, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 2002

Lumenon Innovative Lightwave Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ SC: LUMM), a manufacturer of high-quality optical devices for the global telecommunications, data communications and cable television markets, announced the appointment of Dr. C.P. Wong to Lumenon's Technology Advisory Board.

Dr. Wong is currently Regents' Professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and a Research Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Packaging Research Center at Georgia Tech. Dr. Wong will advise the Company in the area of photonic materials science and packaging.

"I am very honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the work that Dr. Andrews and his team have been engaged in at Lumenon. I believe the Company's activities in polymeric materials hold much promise for applications in photonic communications, and I am very impressed with the progress Lumenon has made towards their commercialization," stated Dr. Wong.

Dr. Wong received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Purdue University, and his Ph.D. degree in inorganic/organic chemistry from Pennsylvania State University. After his doctoral study, he was awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship with Nobel Laureate Professor Henry Taube at Stanford University, where he conducted studies on electron transfer and reaction mechanisms of metallocomplexes. In a breakthrough in metalloporphyrin chemistry, Dr. Wong synthesized the first known lanthanide and actinide porphyrin complexes.

He became a distinguished member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories where he was involved in research and development of inorganic and organic polymeric materials for electronic and photonic applications. For his fundamental contributions to low-cost high performance plastic packaging of semiconductors, he was elected an AT&T Bell Laboratories Fellow in 1992.

During the course of his career, Dr. Wong has received many awards from such organizations as the International Society for Hybrids and Microelectronics, AT&T Bell Laboratories, IEEE Components, and the Packaging and Manufacturing Technology (CPMT) Society. His work was recognized in 1994 with a distinguished Service Award from the IEEE Technical Advisory Board, and in 1995 he received the IEEE CPMT Society's Outstanding Sustained Technical Contributions Award (the highest society honor). In addition he has received the NSF-ERC Packaging Research Center Faculty of the Year Award from Georgia Tech, and the University Press (London) Award of Excellence.

He holds over 40 U.S. patents, numerous international patents, has published over 300 technical papers and given 290 key-note lectures and presentations in the related areas. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the IEEE Transactions on CPMT, the Chip Scale Review, and the John Wiley Encyclopedia of Smart Materials. He is an editor and an author of the Academic Press textbook, "Polymers for Electronic and Photonic Applications", and co-author of McGraw Hill's "Electronic Packaging: Design, Materials, Processes and Reliability".

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Mark Andrews, Lumenon's Co-founder, and Chief Technology Officer said, "We are very privileged to have Dr. Wong's considerable expertise and knowledge to draw on. His knowledge of advanced materials and packaging will be a valuable asset to our team. Dr. Wong's appointment is indicative of the high caliber of scientific and industry expertise we are pursuing as we continue to build our technical advisory board.
