ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2002
Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT) today announced its next generation unified messaging platform, CallPilot 2.0, which offers more than 40 new features and capabilities including system management improvements, security enhancements and full Web access.
Central to Nortel Networks enterprise vision 'One network. A world of choice.' Nortel Networks CallPilot 2.0 is different from other unified messaging solutions in that it does not reside on the customer's e-mail server. Voice and fax messages are stored on the CallPilot server while e-mail is stored on the e-mail server, eliminating additional storage and retrieval requirements. CallPilot engages the e-mail client to provide one solution that is unified at the desktop. Additionally, the fully integrated Web browser allows users to send and receive messages anywhere using an Internet connection and browser-enabled PC, eliminating the necessity for IP (Internet Protocol) tunneling.
"The introduction of CallPilot 2.0 represents an important milestone for Nortel Networks unified messaging program," said Ronald Gruia, program leader of Enterprise Communications Solutions, Frost & Sullivan. "These enhancements can provide additional user productivity gains while lowering the total cost of ownership. The launch of this new version further indicates the company's strong commitments to the enterprise space and to the evolution of its unified messaging platform."
Some of the most notable changes to CallPilot are the new mobility bundle and integration with Nortel Networks Symposium Call Center Server. Additional benefits for mobile users include e-mail by phone using text-to-speech and speech-activated messaging, providing safe and efficient mobile communications. CallPilot integration with Symposium Call Center Server will give contact centers a seamless means of adding voice mail and related unified messaging features to the customer experience.
CallPilot is a powerful multimedia messaging system that provides an unparalleled ability to access and manage voice, fax and e-mail messages using leading-edge technologies such as speech recognition and text-to-speech. Release 2.0 expands on the already substantial feature set to offer an even greater level of usability and functionality.
