NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2002
The New York Times and The Honolulu Star-Bulletin announced today that The Honolulu Star-Bulletin will become the exclusive distributor of The New York Times on Oahu beginning Nov. 3. The agreement includes home delivery and single-copy sales of The Times seven days a week.
"We are excited to be partnering with The Star-Bulletin," said Scott Heekin-Canedy, senior vice president of circulation for The New York Times. "This partnership will enable us to broaden availability throughout Oahu, grow circulation and better serve the needs of our readers and advertisers in this important market."
This expanded distribution comes on the heels of The New York Times's reporting increases in daily and Sunday circulation for the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2002, according to figures filed by the newspaper with the Audit Bureau of Circulations, subject to audit.
The New York Times is now available for home delivery in 232 markets, up from 62 five years ago and is now sold at approximately 55,000 newsstand and retail outlets across the country.
The Star-Bulletin's circulation director, Jon Corrice, expects the partnership to benefit both papers and all newspaper readers on the island.
"Our primary focus will continue to be The Star-Bulletin," Mr. Corrice said. But he noted that The Times will offer readers a chance to receive a great paper known for its national and international coverage to go along with a paper with the best local news coverage.
