Porcupine Tree Lands National Yes Tour, Headline Dates to Follow; Band Celebrates Release of Critically Acclaimed Major-label Debut Album, In Absentia

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 2002

British rock band Porcupine Tree announce today they will support Yes, one of the most successful and enduring arena rock bands, on a ten city jaunt across America, followed by their own headlining dates.

Porcupine Tree recently launched their critically acclaimed major-label debut In Absentia with their first American tour in over a year. A spectacular sold-out success (selling out venues like the House of Blues in Los Angeles and the Bowery Ballroom in New York), their show features a concoction of mega-watt lighting and expansive video presentation creating the perfect backdrop for their sonically intense musical landscapes.

Porcupine Tree's major-label debut album In Absentia, released on September 24, has been garnering rave reviews, including Pulse Magazine's description as a "Near Masterpiece." While the LA Weekly hears "Dick wagging chord progressions (and) roller-coaster melodies," CMJ declares "In Absentia is one of those albums that begs to be listened to." Indeed, "Porcupine Tree (are) poised for a huge breakthrough" says the Arizona Republic. Porcupine Tree creates music that seeps into your brain, takes a seat next to your imagination, and simply refuses to be ignored. The album is crawling up the metal chart (43 to 25 in one week!) and the deep dark video for "Strip the Soul" is in rotation at MuchMusicUSA and MTV2. Porcupine Tree are prepared to take their cerebral guitar rock to the masses.

Porcupine Tree is comprised of Steven Wilson (lead vocals, guitars); Richard Barbieri (Keyboards); Colin Edwin (bass); and Gavin Harrison (drums). Together as a band since 1993, the band is one of the U.K.'s most respected, pioneering underground forces with a following that spans the globe. Finding themselves consistently at the top of the British indie charts, the band has toured extensively in Europe selling in excess of 250,000 albums worldwide. Porcupine Tree made their mark across the pond in America with 1998's Signify followed by 1999's Stupid Dream. Touring in support of Stupid Dream, Porcupine Tree quickly built a US following and received airplay on a variety of radio formats.
