Recording Academy Launches 5th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative Legal Writing Competition

More than $10,000 in Scholarships to be Awarded to Aspiring

Entertainment Law Students

The Recording Academy(R) has initiated the 5th Annual Entertainment Law Initiative (ELI) Essay Competition, co-sponsored by the American Bar Association (ABA), it was announced today. A substantial cash scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to the author of the winning paper and $1,500 will be awarded to each of four runners up. Additionally, each winner will receive airfare, hotel accommodations, and a ticket to the 45th Annual GRAMMY(R) Awards telecast in New York on February 23, 2003, as well as invitations to other GRAMMY Week activities.

Composed of two main components, a writing competition and a luncheon, ELI invites law students to write a 3,000-word essay on a legal topic facing the music industry today. Students must contact the Academy to enter the competition by December 14. Submissions must be postmarked by January 2, 2003, and winners will be announced on February 15. The competition will culminate with the winning student authors presenting their papers at a luncheon during GRAMMY Week.

ELI endeavors to promote future careers in entertainment law by seeking out the nation's top law students and giving them invaluable networking and educational opportunities.
